Frequently Asked Questions

How is the 24-hour period calculated?

Rates are calculated on a 24-hour period from the time you sign the rental contract until the return of the vehicle. We do allow a 29 minute "grace period" on the final day of return as a gesture of goodwill.

When is there no charge for fuel?

There is no charge for re-fuelling when the car is brought back to the Budget branch with a full tank.

What are the charges regarding delivery and collection fees?

Delivery / Collection of vehicle within 25km within office hours - R600.

Delivery / Collection of vehicle within 25km out of office hours - R1,100.

For deliveries further than a 25 km radius an additional charge of R20.00 per km will apply. This is subject to quotation.

What are the minimum requirements when renting from Budget?

Renters must be in possession of a valid unendorsed driver’s licence. The minimum age is 18 years and driver's licence must have been valid for a minimum of 1 year. It is a legal requirement in RSA to be in possession of your drivers licence at all times whilst driving a vehicle.

How is the exchange rate calculated?

The exchange rate is applied at the time of return of the vehicle at foreign destinations.

How do I extend my car rental booking?

In the event that you need your car longer that you had initially booked it, you must call the rental office where the rental originated to organise an extension. A Rental Sales Agent will explain the terms of the extension to you, once agreed to; the rental will be extended over the telephone. N.B. Keeping the rented car longer than the initial/agreed reservation length may result in an Overdue Rental Administration Fee.

What is a location surcharge?

A surcharge was imposed by the Airports Company (ACSA) Ltd at certain airport locations and applies to all car rental companies.

The outlying area surcharge is levied by smaller and remote locations due to higher logistics costs of operating at these locations.
