WINGS FOR LIFE WELCOMES BUDGET ON THE STARTING POSITION AS SPONSOR
On Your Mark…Get Set…Go! The Wings for Life World Run is almost here and Budget Rent a Car has taken its starting position as the official car rental partner for the 2016 leg of the race.
Thousands of runners and wheelchair competitors, from beginners to elite athletes will once again converge at the starting line to race side by side in a bid to stay ahead of the Catcher Car, chasing them from behind.
Now in its third year, the ingenious concept of the race centers around Catcher Cars, vehicles equipped with sensors, which starts 30 minutes after the runners. The twist to this race is simple, as long as you stay in front of the car, you stay in the race. When the Catcher Car passes you, your race is over. Nevertheless the race continues, until just one lone runner is left at the end.
The SuperSport Park in Centurion, Pretoria will for the first time on 08 May 2016, serve as the starting point for local running enthusiasts from all walks of life. On this same day, at the same time, millions of fellow runners worldwide will embark on running the selected routes by organisers in each country. In 2015, the event saw over 1,300 South African participants of all ages and abilities set out for this unique race.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Rainer Gottschick, Chief Executive for Budget southern Africa said, “We believe in the power of intriguing ideas, especially those ideas which unites millions of people for a common goal. The Wings for Life World Run is one such concept that we are proud to be a part of.”
As the official vehicle partner, Budget will be part sponsoring the vehicle requirements for the event.
The 2015 event saw a total of just under 100,000 runners take part globally, almost doubling the entries of the 2014 inaugural event.
